NEW COURTS' NEWS

Post by jimlongo »

Despite the city strike we are moving along at last! A contractor is being hired by the city and work is expected to begin in mid August.

We must explain that this is not simply a court resurfacing, this is a court rebuilding. This means that the fences will be removed, the courts will be pulverized, a new granular base will be prepared, new asphalt layed, a layer of fibreglass added and lastly a new acrylic top.

Completion date is very dependent on the weather of course.
This rebuilding happens only once every twenty years or so and we are very excited that this is happening at Wanless Park.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

1 On Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Aug. 6th, until the "trucks roll in", a Round Robin will take place at 7p.m. Everyone welcome.
2. Lessons will be suspended for the remainder of the season.
3. Our Annual Tournament will be postponed and perhaps cancelled for the first time in 25 years.
4. To compensate for this inconvenience we will subsidize a year end dinner and Round Robin at a private club. (Flyer to follow in September)

The Executive.

As you can see work is progressing on our new tennis courts. Asphalt should be completed within the week and an acrylic "topping" or playing surface then has to be added.

We are experiencing tough weather conditions. These are restricting the City's contractors from getting down to the business of providing a playable surface. Perhaps the recent (April 8) weather and hopefully future weather will allow work to begin. At present we are sticking to our April 26, 2003 official opening. Keep you eyes on the weather and the courts.

Hamburgers anyone? See you on the 26th.

The courts were roled yesterday to provide a playable temporary surface.

Lines will be applied today, if the clouds do not sprout rain
