Spring 2006 House League

Post by Arthur Wolf »

We had a cool opening evening, yet some hotly contested matches took place on court. Pizza did finally arrive at 8:15 - So much for 30 minutes or it's free.

Team 1 15
Team 2 12
Team 3 9
Team 4 15
Team 5 10
Team 6 13
Team 7 16
Team 8 19
Team 9 13
Team 10 18
For many this was their first night out in a while. It may take several games to get back in game form after the winter lay off. Please try and call each other to set up games.

I would like to thank Anne Fairlie for blowing the opening whistle and getting everyone onto the correct courts. Next weeks Captain in charge is Peter Maughan.

Week 2 was a big week for several teams with 20 out of 24 games won.

Remember that every game won is a single point added to your cumulative scores for the season . Team 10 is off to a quick lead however it is still early on.

From what I could see consistency and being able to keep the ball in play seems to be hurting some teams. At this level ,out rallying your opponent is a key success factor. Keep in mind that 3 courts are bookable for warm-up prior to the house league for those wanting extra practice.

Team 1 7 22
Team 2 16 28
Team 3 8 17
Team 4 11 26
Team 5 8 18
Team 6 12 25
Team 7 20 36
Team 8 17 36
Team 9 20 33
Team 10 21 39
I would like to thank Peter Maughan for blowing the whistle tonight and we will meet Nancy Estey courtside next week.

Another warm clear night for tennis on week 3. The overall level of play in the first hour is steadily improving which is nice to see. Team 10 has taken the year to date lead.

Please be reminded that should you have a conflict that in addition to the spare list you can get anyone not scheduled to play on any team, to fill in at your own level.

May 9, 2006

Team 1 21 43
Team 2 7 35
Team 3 13 30
Team 4 7 33
Team 5 7 25
Team 6 15 40
Team 7 21 57
Team 8 21 57
Team 9 7 40
Team 10 21 60

I would also ask that players be aware and not foot fault on their serves. I witnessed multiple incidents of "gross" foot faulting during the second hour of play. You may not step onto the playing surface (including the baseline) prior to contacting the ball on the service motion.

I would like to thank Nancy Estey for blowing the whistle tonight and we will meet Ann Haslett courtside next week.

Even with a little rain it did not deter our house leaguers tonight. I would like to thank those who helped me roll the courts. By 7:10 we had 3 courts of exhibition doubles being played by those who did brave the weather.

By 8:00 pm the courts were dry and the real games began. Only scores from the second hour will be counted tonight.

We are starting to see the better teams start to pull away from the weaker teams. Team 1 tonight had a default @ 8:00 pm which certainly benefitted team 7 who gained 25 out of 28 possible points. This moved Team 7 into a tie for second place.

I would ask that team Captains please remind their teams of the next few match ups. We have numerous spares so please ensure that you inform your Captain of any substitutions. You are responsible to arrange a substitute for yourself.
